I have used RCT a couple of times in the past and each time they have slowly lost their shape. It's almost like they melt or something. What am I doing wrong?
I have a cake coming up in a couple of weeks that I will be using RCT for and I would like to have better success. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
TIA

I don't know if this will help but, maybe use less butter, less liquid too soften? Sorry I don't have nay better suggestions.

I thought I read on here somewhere that adding a little bit of corn syrup helps stiffen it up.

I find that if you leave out the butter and then let the RCT or RKT (however you spell them!) shape sit out for a few hours (or overnight) to air dry they should last fine.

I had one of my Elmo's last for 3 months without losing its shape. Lost some fur though... lol. Gotta love children's fingerprints!

Ok stupid me, yes I meant RKT - rice krispy treats, duh me. icon_redface.gif
So crislen, just melt the marshmallows and add the rice krispies, no butter? I will try that. Did you let it sit out overnight without covering it with fondant?
Thanks everyone for your replies!

I just made a Mickey Mouse 3D clubhouse over the weekend and used RKT for the very first time, I didn't add any of the butter and I also used my grinder on the RKT before adding them to the marshmallows. They weren't stiff even after leaving them out overnight, but they seemed to stiffen up after I covered them in fondant, so if you haven't covered in fondant, maybe you should try and see if that helps.

Yup! Just the marshmallows and Rice Krispies!

I did leave them out overnight without covering in fondant; no ill effects on the taste either!

The elmo's were covered in icing, and I did one beaker thing in MMF and both kept their shapes beautifully; but I could be lucky, I have limited hunidity and heat up in vancouver!

Thanks, I will give it a try. Maybe if that doesn't work for me I'll try adding corn syrup like ccr03 mentioned. When I have used them before, I let the shaped stuff set out overnight then covered in fondant the next day. Still seemed to loose its shape so hopefully leaving out the butter will work. Back to bakin'.
