ok - i'm making a stacked anniversary cake for my own 10th wedding anniversary (Aug 30) that we're celebrating on friday...

i baked the 3 layers, in 3" pans and they've all come out around 2.5" tall - it looks SO RIDICULOUSLY SMALL!!! they're 6, 10 & 14 rounds

i understand they have to be torted and filled (i'm hoping to get at least 3 tortes for each - or maybe i should only have two?) - but will this give me a substantial looking cake or do i need to be baking another layer for each size?

is this standard for wedding cakes? or do people do twice as much cake?

thanks for your input!

How many people are you serving?
That will determine the size requirement. I usually double the the cake 2-6 inch, 2-10 inch, etc... to get size layers I want. But that still depends on the amount of cake/servings you will need.

Usually there are 2 cake layers to every layer. Then you torte in between and then some even slice each layer and torte again. So for each level you should have 2-14" layers - torted inbetween the layers and if you so choose - split each layer in half and torte again. Then repeat this with the 10" and 6" levels.

Depends on how high you want your cakes. If I were doing it, I'd bake another layer for each size. Hope someone has a better idea.
