The only cake books I have is Dede Wilson's Make your own Wedding cake (or something like that) and it was a lifesaver when I made the wedding cake after the Wilton 1 course.

The only other book I have is Wilton's Cake Decorating book which is basically the basics covered in all three courses.

With this site for pics and recipes, is there a need for books? I've thought about the cake bible, but really, how can I know if some of these recipes are good or not? Here I can look for the number of reviews to guage if it's for me or not.

What do you think?

i agree! the wealth of info and friendly supportive help you get here is more than you can get from a book. Unless there is something specific you are looking for in a book why bother? I recently bought Debbie Brown's 50 Easy party cakes. Simply because i love her cakes and wanter to try the big frog cake and had not seen it on here. But as far as general technique and recepies you can find EVERYTHING on here or at least a link to somewhere that does. ITS A POT OF GOLD! icon_lol.gif

I agree, everything can be found here. But, I still love my books and magazines. I spend time just looking at pictures and descriptions of cakes. That's a big part of the pleasure for me. ( icon_lol.gif I spend far too much time on CakeCentral, as it is.)

CC is great but I love the books too. I can't cuddle up on the couch with my computer but I can with a good decorating book. icon_smile.gif

Personally, the "Cake Bible" is not one of my most favorite books. That said.. I do have at least 50 other recipe/decorating books in my personal library. Obviously I don't use every one every day. But I too love to curl up in the easy chair with a cup of coffee and look at the pictures, recipes and plot what great experiment I will work on next icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif . Go to a bookstore when you have at least an hour to spend. Look at the books.. read some of the recipes.. see what appeals to you the most. Remember.. when you get the book home treat it gently.. if you find it's not what you really wanted.. exchange it for another. thumbs_up.gif

Happy Caking!

I have to agree! I've learned more from you all in the short time that I've been on this site than I did in all of my weeks of my cake decorating class!

I cuddle up on the couch with the computer. icon_redface.gif It annoys my husband because he thinks I should watch TV with him but he's the one who decided he wanted a latop.

i love books. one day i will take a pic of my library and post it....plus i just ordered 4 more books from www.hamiltonbook.com lots of books for under5 dollars.

i also love websites. and i have printed a lot of recipes also.

one thing i know is that you cant tell if a recipe is good or bad until you try it...case in point...the killer chocolate cake recipe on this site sucked for me but worked for other...u just have to try it.
