Kitty
I was told to never use the airbrush for anything else that is not edible. Also i've been told that gel colors don't work, there are special airbrush colours you can buy, and liquid colors *should* work as well.
The cake lady has a pretty good dvd on airbrushing, but it doesnt tell you about the questions you are asking.
cheers

Learn from my mistakes. DO NOT USE THE GEL. I did on accident, they do not spray well and take forever to clean out of the brush. I would ot use the same brush. Even if you do get it clean enough, I still would not do it. It only takes that one time. You can share the compressor, that is most of the cost anyway. I have said many times on here that dixieart.com has a Paasche vsr90 for $65 shipped. It comes with the hose, hard case, 2 color cups, and an extra needle that allows even more flexibility in your spray pattern.

PLEASE don't let your husband use it for anything other than food colors! He can get his own!

I also agree with Nati and cigarHerb, you should definitely use the airbrush colors. It will be a little investment at first, but they last forever.

I just bought an Air Master but have'nt used it yet, with it I bouth several books and tapes on airbrushing and all of them advise to only use the colors made for this purpose as the fibers in other color products ruin the airbrush. I would'nt share my airbrush with nobody(not even my hubby) for different purposes.

1. Color gels do not always dulite cleanly, meaning there can be clumps in it. The clumps will cause the airbrush to get stopped up. Airbrush colors are very liquidly.

2. No, you should never use anything used with non edible products on cakes. Now you can use the same compressor since it is just air, and buy two seperate airbrush guns. You get one for your cake stuff and he gets one for his stuff. Just make sure you mark them clearly to know which is which.
