Looking For This Cookie Decorator
Baking By bearcreek350 Updated 31 Aug 2007 , 7:22pm by kneadacookie
I stumbled across a web site or blog before I started making cookies. I thought I had saved it. Must not have...anyway, her cookies were out of this world. She even had her business card as a cookie. Very tiny details. I just wanted to look at them again now that I am decorating. I think they each took a long time to do. I don't know how I found them, cause I sure can't find them now. She may even be on here, but I haven't seen the cookes her yet.
http://www.nancysfancycookies.com/ would this be who you are looking for?
It's definitely Nancy. Her cookies are awesome. Yankeegal has some great ones, too. But, your description is for Nancy as she hasn't uploaded any pix on here that I'm aware of.
THANKS!!! Thats the lady!! Nancy's Fancy's are sure fancy!! Something for me to aspire to. Thanks again for all your help. This group is grrrreeeat!
nancy is definately something to reach for!!! not as though i'll ever get there. i tried to swing by her shop on my way to oklahoma this november. apparently 8 hours out of the way is too much for my hubby geeeeesh!!
Hi everyone! Gee, thanks for the unexpected comments I just happened to run across here! You're all very sweet. ( It's almost 2 in the morning and I needed this jolt!)
Just a short FYI----I've been hangin' out and posting cookies in the TOTM thread lately. (Theme of the Month) Before this I posted stuff in The Cookie Club. Thank you for inquiring---I'm very touched. I LOVE the incentive here ,every month, to come up with something new and wacky. And I LOVE seeing what you guys are doing with cookies. There's a LOT of talent in this area on CC.
Kneadacookie, I've been wanting to say hi to you because I grew up right next door to you---in Royal Oak, Michigan!!!! Small world, huh? ( Btw, there must be another Nancy's Fancy in Oklahoma, because I'm in Virginia)
Thanks again, guys. You're all terrific.
nancy.... oh no, the nancy cookies i was looking for WAS in virginia. i suppose that's why my husband says it's a bit out of the way. i was hoping i could just swing it to be able to meet a real cookie decorator. maybe we'll have to go to florida for something. then it will be on the way.
i thought i remembered reading something about you being in michigan. right now i'm working at holiday market on main street. i'm dieing one day to open my own place. i really need time to sit down and work on my own portfolio. i definately get inspiration from your beautiful work. i'm dieing to order from you. i would love to taste your cookies, but i know if i get one i won't have the heart to eat it. guess i'll have to order several.
Hi Nancy! Nice to meet you!! One question, how do you get your black outline so smooth like it was written with a pen instead of a tip! I suppose it has a lot to do with the consistancy of your royal huh? I have a commercial art degree and love the illustration look of your cookies. I was reading through some of your old posts. I read how you "draw on your cookie with an edible marker"! What a great idea!!
Hi again, guys. ( I'm humbled and embarrassed by this thread---but you all made my day----thank you!)
bearcreek350----( Hey, you're in Iowa too like my famous friend here on CC, Melvira!!!) ( Big state--big talents!) Thank you for starting this lovely thread and hunting me down!
It's cool that you have a commercial art degree. Being able to draw and design will always be an asset to decorating cakes and cookies.
kneadacookie----Well, I can see why your husband did not want to drive 8 hours out of your way to see some silly cookies! I appreciate the thought though!! ( By the way, I love Holiday Market!!!!! Next time I'm there, I will ask for you!!!!!!) And, YOUR cookies are AMAZING!!!!!!!
snowshoe1----Thank you very much for my new title " Cookie Idol"!! I'm not worthy though. ( But I'm going to embroider this on a hat!!!)
cocorum21---- Thank you very much, also. In answer to your questions: Yes, these cookies are pretty big. For instance, the kitchen scene I just finished (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nancydidion/1240923754/in/photostream/) is 6X6 inches. And " Hagrid" (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nancydidion/822939254/in/photostream/) is 4X9 inches.
I can't imagine trying to go smaller than these. The detail is difficult enough at these sizes.
I do have a few cutters made for me, but mostly for production cookies or special orders. These big, weird cookies are done just for fun and one of a kind----so I just take my sketch, put it on the dough and cut around it. ( My sketches---which I like to keep on file, are all greasy and gross!)
bearcreek350---again!----Yes, I think the right consistency for my black outlines is key to good linework. After mixing royal for the past two years, I can eyeball this perfect consistency as I mix in the water. And using tiny tips--#1 or #2, gives me the look I want. I rarely use the edible pens anymore----just for writing a few words on cookies. I like the bold look of royal lines so much more. I also use little paint brushes dipped in food color for face details.
Thanks again. I appreciate your comments more than I can say.
Hey, TubbsCookies!!!
I was about to say " You're up late", but my spotty Canadian geography tells me you're way out west---yes??? I'll bet it's beautiful where you live.
Thanks for your nice comment. It's hard to BE humble when you guys are so nice!!!
Your cookies are wonderful. That "Stampede" basket is fantastic!
Also, love the avatar!!! ( But glad you said it was not you!!!) ( She/he is cute though!!)
How long does it take you to make such a large detailed cookie? I had to go back to your website and I gotta tell you...you don't charge enough! You cookies really are a work of art. And I couldn't imagine eating one....I'd buy it just to have so when people come over I can show them. Heck I'd hang it on the wall if I could! As a matter of fact I just bought some cookie easels! ![]()

Aww, thanks, you're kind.
It is nice to be so close to the mountains, especially as there aren't that many mountains in my native UK.
Yes, Tubbs is hideous isn't s/he? The League of Gentlemen is one of my favourite shows.http://www.lunacynet.com/league/char_tubbs.html
Hey cocorum!
I love that the cookie/nancy chat continues! I'm enjoying this immensely! (This will get boring real soon though!) Thanks for the nice comment. Yeah, when I see what Eleni's charges for tiny cookies it makes me want to kick myself in the butt. ( But she's in New York. ) My local market complains enough as it is!)
Those big, crazy cookies that I do for the CC threads are not even for sale, though. They take me several hours each so that's why they are relegated to "portfolio piece" status (aka, the top of my dusty baker's rack).
I love the cookie easels too! I have used them for my smaller cookie displays at the bakery.
I'm trying to find a way to preserve and protect the non-edible ones longer. These royal-covered cookies do last a long time with no deterioration but I'm trying to find a way to preserve and protect them longer. The royal does become brittle when touched after months. I tried a poly spray on a poor little doggie cookie. It pitted and ruined it. Back to the drawing board!
Fairytale: Thank you! And I could be the president of YOUR fan club! All the cookies you do are stand-out gorgeous and inspire me as well.
Hey Tubbs: Wow! The UK to Western Canada! That's far away from home! (I'd take a majestic mountain view over home any day, though!)
I have to check out "The League of Gentlemen." Thanks. Your alter-ego looks like a real hoot.
freddy----"Oh, don't hate me because I'm beaut......" Sorry, stupid joke. ( And I'm sure you're to young to remember that lame commercial)
But--COME ON FREDDY!!!---We're all jealous of YOU!!! Your cookies are and always will be prize-winning eye-poppers!!
I just did a quick Google search on Tubbs and that show and boy is it a strange one! She is married to her brother?!?! LOL!! Hair sandwiches??? I love BBC America. I can't get enough of Gordon Ramsey!
Sorry to get the post off track!
nancy, have you tried shrink wrapping your cookies? some of the ones i see in the stores look older that me. i wanted to try that with a couple of mine, but they didn't last long enough. the kids are real quick with the leftovers.
fairytale...i definately have a lot of your stuff in my favs as well.
it's nice to have such talented people here. i feel like i could learn so much!!!!!
