uh oh!! I don't have meringue powder and wanted to do a transfer of writing onto a cake. Could I try royal icing to do the same thing???
I think you could but heres a bump, maybe someone that knows for sure will answer.
Color Flow is traditionally made with Wilton's Color Flow mix. You use meringue powder when making royal icing. Are you talking about royal icing made with real eggs?
I've made plenty of 'color flow' pieces using Royal Icing (made with meringue bowder) and have not had a problem. They don't always try as shiny as color flow does and are said to not be as strong, but it works prefectly fine.

If you have candy melts on hand and it is appropriate for your cake...you could use the same technique (reverse printout, piped on wax / parchment paper).
I do this all the time, if you want to see what it looks like, take a look in my gallery. I use candy melts for my writing on just about all my cakes that call for it.
Ohhhh, that's great! The candy melts! How long do they take to dry??
