I have been making cakes for my family for years. Now a friend has asked me to do her wedding cake after seeing my wedding cake. However, she wants a square stacked cake. I was going to use 16", 12" and 8" pans. How come the only separator plates I can fine are odd inches...15,13,11,9? Am I supposed to use a smaller separator plate? I didn't on my wedding cake? I am confused? Thanks for any advice.

Yeah, use a smaller size and you won't see the seperator when you stack the cake.

Sometimes you need to use a separator plate 1" larger than your cake, if you want the decorative edge to be part of your final cake presentation. (As a cake plate, or when you use pillars between the cakes).

I also use the separator plates to transport cakes that are going to be stacked right on top of other cakes, in case you'd like to broaden their use!
