I am doing a baby shower cake and the colors are supposed to be like Martha Stewart baby colors. So they are not pastel and they are not bright. I don't know how to get the right red without it being too pink or too brown. Any suggestions?

Try a tiny bit of black...I know when I use the air brush that is how I mute colors...

Hiya hun,
In color theory you add the complement (the color on the opposite side of the color wheel) to a color to mute it. You could add black but black has a tendency to "suck" light and make the colors dull not muted. So if you want to mute red add just a smidge of green. Same with blue or orange, yellow or violet. Add the opposite color and you get a not as vibrant.
Just a little som'in som'in I learned studying the impressionist artists.
