I have never done anything like this, but my best guess would be to make the roof lines with gumpaste so they can dry hard. The steeple as well. The rest seems pretty easy though. Square cakes and gold luster dust. Looks like a fun project. Can't wait to see yours!

That's a very good question. I'll take a guess and say you can use either square or sheet cakes for the bases. Now for the acutally wing portion I have no clue. Maybe they used pastillage or maybe gumpaste. Not too sure.

Please post your photos so we can see.

I'm getting ready to do a pagoda topper for a cake next month. My plan is to use gumpaste for the roof. I made some cardstock templates to be sure they fit together (taped them to give the 3d effect & to be sure all the angles matched up right). Then I disassembled my template pieces & I'll use those to cut out my gumpaste (using an xacto knife). Does that make sense?

I'm not planning on doing the curliques on the roof corners, but I would think you could either do them in gumpaste or pipe them with RI onto waxed paper and let them dry, then fasten on with RI and paint with luster dust.
