I noticed at Wal-mart that they had chocolate marshmallows. Has anyone tried this to make MMF?

I have not tried chocolate, but I have used the pink strawberry ones. The flavor is very mild and the color is pastel - I added strawberry extract and a bit more color. You probably would need to add chocolate or cocoa powder to get a real chocolate taste, and it would be a very light color in color without additions, but it should be good. Maybe someone else has tried the chocolate.

Oh quite the contrary. I have used these chocolate marshmallows. They produce a dark colored fondant and as my customers said last night, they taste like tootsie rolls.

mmgiles,

I'm glad to hear you tried it and it worked. for some reason, I have a hard time trying new things. especially if it ends with me having a messy, sticky kitchen. icon_lol.gif Now I'm going to pick up a bag and try it.

I have found when making mmf what's easiest for me is to put crisco in a bowl, then empty my bag of marshmallows in the bowl, add a couple tbls of water and microwave. Then, if i'm using white marshmallows I add my coloring to get the desired color. I find whatever color I get the melted marshmallows to be will be the same after I add the powdered sugar. I then add my sugar to the bowl and mix with a wooden spoon that I greased. I do this until its firm enough to pick up and knead in the powder sugar. I always ended up with a sticky kitchen in the begining. I tried using a stand mixer, hand mixer, dough hooks, beaters, etc.
