Ok, don't get me wrong. I like the show and I like Duff, BUT...I just watched the show tonight where they had the flamingo "cake". I'm just curious if it's me or not but what is the point in making that? It wasn't cake, so what was the point? Why did the person order it and not want it to be cake? For some reason it just bothered me.
Also, the other shows on the food network are mostly instructional and how to. Why not this one? I wish they would do more of that. It's really just like a reality show. I would just like to see more cake and how to.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Pretty much everything after 8 p.m. on FN is entertainment and not really instructional, starting with Emeril Live. I would like to see Duff do cake how-to but I do think this is more suited to his personality, that's what made him popular on the Challenge programs.
I agree, a lot of them are just for entertainment and ideas not instructional. I love them though. The flamingo was a display piece that is why it was not cake.
I do pick up a lot of info from Duff though like about supporting a cake and using other items such as rice krispie treats and such for additional elements.
does any one know if there are any other cake shows besides this that are how to?
At the beginning of the show Duff said that this piece was a display piece the Zoo planned to have up for a year. He said he couldn't do it in cake cause it would rot. (His word!) He spoke about using styrofoam and metal sculpture as part of his business. At the very end you could see they were serving pieces of cake on a table. Must have brought sheet cakes off camera. I understand your wish that he had more instruction in his show, but I don't think it would appeal to a large enough audience if there was too much, and then it would go off the air. I really enjoy watching the show as it is. His staff is great and his personality really fits the format of the show.
I guess I was a bit disappointed in last nights show, too. Too much time spent on nothing. They had lots of cakes in the works but we didn't get to see anything except the "fist" and the flamingos. Alas!! There's always next week. And I will watch.
I loved that fist of rock cake. In fact I emailed Duff and asked if I could have his permission to reproduce it for my sons birthday in November. He said he would be flattered and to ask for help if I needed it. He and his staff are the friendliest people and this is my new favorite show. Can hardly wait for the new 13 episodes starting in January.
These is a show by Wilton that is more towards instructional on Sunday' s or sheck your local listting for PBS it called
Bake, Decorate,Celebrate! and they have a web site.
Oh good! New episodes in July??!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!! I love the show but I don't really love watching the SAME show over and over........ so exciting!!!
Now if he would just get a non-flash website so that i could look at the beautiful works of art at my work when I'm bored
LOL I hate Flash sites - thought they were cool but if you don't have Flash - you just get a big blank ugly page! (Oh and the reason I don't have Flash - our computer at work are ANCIENT and we aren't allowed to download ANYTHING - even stuff we actually need! ERGH ARGH!)
try this, I hate flash, too:

Sweet Dreams with Gale Gand was a good one but there haven't been new episodes in awhile and they show they at odd times...like 4 a.m. but I think someone said they were showing them at 10 on Fridays (a.m.).
I agree I really like the show but would love to see a little more of the decorating side rather than deliveries.
Did anyone see the show that he did for the muesum? The big dinosar was made out of a lot of non-edible items and at the end the kids were just digging in. I just don't understand if you want a display piece then just call it that not cake.

i saw that show for the first time today. our local pbs doesn't carry it, but there was a special on a cable pbs so it was shown and i was highly disappointed. to me, it seemed rushed. she rushed through the spider, she rushed through the fondant, she rushed through something else. i would have liked it if they had slowed down and explained more. it seemed like what she was demonstrating was not as good as the completed project which she obviously did not rush thorugh.

I recently read that Gale Gand doesn't make new episodes of "Sweet Dreams" anymore.
So all the episodes that FN shows are reruns. The show was on at 10 AM on Fridays for the summer, but just in the last few weeks, they have demoted it back to 4 AM on Fridays. I hate that!!! It's such a great show!!!!!! ![]()
It isn't intended to be a 'how to' show. I read that Food network is trying to get more male viewers interested in watching. Judging by the response of CCers husbands, I think they have accomplished that.
Hoorah For The Ace Of Cakes!!
My fiance definitely loves ace of cakes, he now wants to be a cake decorator but only doing airbrush techniques. I also wish they would do more how to, but im still happy with it, i love duff ![]()
