I've had a day from H-E- double hockey sticks today! School was horrible and when I get home I pick up my son to take him to his pm pre-school. I pull in the school parking lot and he starts to cry saying his mouth hurts. He loves school so I know he wants to go even when in pain but he was crying to go home. (he fell and busted out some of his front teeth 2 weeks ago and did massive damage so I checked to make sure his stitches were still ok) he opened his mouth and says not my boo-boos mommy down here, and he points to his throught. So I tell his teachers I'm taking him home and come right back home with him in tears. I have a cake to make for my teachers at culinary school as a thank you for some advice and recipes for the dessert table at my brothers wedding last month, I told one Chef I would bring it tomarrow. Well I make it and bake it and notice it's flat so I taste the top.....I forgot the sugar and the recipe calls for 2 cups. It was awful!!!! Tasted like coffee, unsweetened choc. and Jim Beam! YUCK!!!!! So I'm now out of some of the ingredients needed and go pick some up with kids in tow. I make another one and this time remember the sugar! when I flip one of the cakes out of the pan some of the cake stuck but that's ok, I patched it right back in. Well....I noticed my 3 year old DD has been lurking around the island in the kitchen the cake is on.....needless to say I walk away for about 30 seconds and come back to see her with a bar stool and a big open mouth like a snake getting ready to eat its dinner! I yelled out "NO KYRA! Don't do it!" Which caught her attention and also scared her into tears... my only though was good, my cakes are saved! But NOOOOOOO! While I'm comforting DD she smiles and she has choc. on her teeth. I slowly looked up to see 2 bites already taken out of one of my cakes!!! icon_cry.gif She then tells me good cakes mommy, I loveeeee cake! No Crap KID!!! I calmly said "honey, these cakes were not for us today" She cries again and is sobbing "Me want cake, never us just others" What??? I make these kids treats and they will sit around the house half the time, they only want the ones for other people for some reason???? icon_confused.gif I don't know if I should laugh or cry right now...so I'm choosing laughing with a chance of crying later in the forcast! Have to go now and put my little chittlins to bed now and then bake yet another cake.-----Melissa

Oh my goodness I am so sorry! It sounds like one thing after another! I hope your son is feeling better. I know how it goes to get little fingers or teeth into a cake. It's so funny to hear my 3 year old asking for scraps. I hope things look up tomorrow icon_smile.gif

awww....lol. icon_biggrin.gif the story is actually kind of funny but i know how you feel. sometimes things just do NOT want to go your way no matter how hard you try. icon_rolleyes.gif my family is the same way with cakes....when i make a cake for us it just sits and gets old and then i throw it out. but when i make a cake for someone else they're like scavengers for it! icon_eek.gificon_surprised.gif i don't know what the reasoning is behind that. icon_confused.gif

Oh you poor thing, you really have had a day from HE double hockeysticks havent you? Well you certainly aren't alone, while my day hasn't nearly as bad as yours, it has been crap too. So I will laugh with you. I hate to cry, it makes my sinuses act up. Maybe tommorrow will be better, for us both.

Just wanted to say that my day was awful too. And don't feel bad, because my two year old went through a stage where she demolished every cake I did for about a month. She also has taken bites out of cakes.

I have to say I really feel for you. We have all been through something like this. When I made my grandson's birthday cake I worked for a week on all the gum paste pieces. Was doing really well following my time schedule. Baked my cakes the morning before. That evening I had my cakes on the kitchen counter on the cooling racks covered with a dish towel. Receieved phone call and turned my back for just a few seconds. Turned back around and he was crawling across the cabinet over the tops of the cakes. Smashed all of them through the cooling racks. It cut them into 1/2" x 1/2" by 2" long pieces of cakes. Was hoping I could salvage some part of them to make the tires, but nope had to rebake them all. I was up all night rebaking cakes AND remaking the gum paste pieces that make up the face. He crawled up on the counter again and broke all of those. He just wanted to see what I was doing. He knew I was making a cake, but was I trying to keep it a surprise.

and the saga continues...... cakes done, make ganache and screw it up but manage to fix it icon_razz.gif Yes, things are finally looking up! Wait what is that darn storm cloud doing over my head? Oh poop, and then ZAP! My ganache looks like a kindergadner did it and this is a thank you cake for 2 Chefs. icon_cry.gificon_redface.gificon_cry.gif Oh well, I seriously don't even care at this point, but then I remember I put whole flakes of coconut in and the one chef said in bake shop last week that "whole pieces of coconut in food is like trying to eat a hair" So I covered my dog patch ganache with angel flake unsweetened coconut and guess what----my cake still looks bad but now it looks like it has a severe case of dandruff. My DH then decides to yell at me for even making a cake when I'm having such a bad day and yells about the kitchen being a mess. I give up, I need a shot of something to drink and make it at least 80 proof. Oh that's right I'm a light wait now that I haven't drank at all since having kids, I need chocolate! I'm laughing while typing this but I have to admit the tears are wanting to form anyways.

post your horror story here please so I don't feel as bad, and for those of you who already posted, I'm eating some chocolate in your honor!

Oh, dear - I feel for you! I'll bet all of us have been there, done that! At our house, if it's not the 4 year old DGD (who is FINALLY beginning to develop some sense of what Gammy's been working so hard on!!!!) - if she stays out then I'm likely to lose something to the cats or the puppy. They're in cahoots, you know! Cat knocks it off the counter so he and puppy can share! How sweet! (grrrrrr.,) Last summer I lost a full sheet cake - before that, at least 3 dozen sugar cookies and who knows how many cupcakes! Last month, puppy ate my last pound of butter, wrappers and all, from the counter and the next day the older dog ripped open a package of chocolate cake mix and licked it thoroughly into the carpet! So, we'll laugh and cry with you - but someday, you really will look back and laugh! Better luck tomorrow! PAT

It must be the day! I've had the worst day too!!! Our computers at work are ALWAYS a mess..... so most of the day I just sit there (on CC of course!). Well today it was raining and the power goes out - (oh good maybe I can go home). Nope the computers and power come back on - but no more Internet....... so no CC.

I finally get to leave work and I'm on my way to Hobby Lobby to use that 50% off all Wilton products coupon..... then I remember I never PRINTED the coupon - b/c the computers went out!!! and Hobby Lobby is NOT near me - but it is near my work - so it's about 45 min away in total...... so URGH!!!! THEN I decide that I will try going to another cake decorating store b/c maybe it will have black and red fondant.... which I need for a cake for Thursday..... but Nope they're out of both colors and the only choc. fondant they have is a huge thing for $45.00! AND they're out of black food coloring!!!! ARGH!!!

So then I decide I'll go to my parents house to bake the cupcakes I need to make for Tuesday (it's a busy weekend so I'm baking and freezing). So I'm half way there and I remember that I left the coffee creamers I bought (and was going to use tonight) at my house. SOooooo I turn around and get them.... I get to my parents house and realize I've forgotten some things I needed to bring to my parents..... and it's STILL nasty and rainy out. It just seems like everything that could go wrong today IS going wrong..... I'm blaming the day.... is it Friday 13th?? Did Friday the 13th get confused and decided to come on the 27th?? Or is Mercury just in retrograde or whatever? LOL!!!

(Sorry to rant on here- just had to do it somewhere! Thanks for listening - or skimming through!)

Your 3 year old sounds like mine when it comes to treats, if I make it to go somewhere he is mad at me and we never finish cake that I make for home. icon_lol.gif

My horrible days mostly revolve around kids fighting with each other.

I had a similar day yesterday ladies lol. I made 3 of those Candy Corn cakes Wilton is featuring, well Hubby says "I put them on the table to cool for the night" ok I go up yesterday morning to start decorating and the tops are tacky and sticky and get stuck to everything! I go to trim the top off to make it level and thanks to his instructions "it's too low, now it's too high here do it this way" I cut off way too much!!!! So I tell him ok that one is staying home lol. Well here he is holding the cut off top on a small cake board I said "hunny do something with it you're in the light and I can't see go put it in the kitchen on a plate or something" he says "here I'll stick it back on here" well hello!!! didn't I just cut that off there? Why the heck would I want it back on top! lol so I carefully take it back off and tell him again "please put this in the kitchen!" Well it was done for. lol When I removed it again the nice pretty "bottom" of the cake that was ready for icing was now covered in crumbs. So I tried to brush them away and it didn't work because, (yeah I know I've never heard of anyone complain about a cake being too moist but hey it was a problem lol) it was too moist and the crumbs just rolled up and became bigger crumbs lol.

So I'm sitting there ALL day decorating these three cakes and I finally get done and mom and dad come home. The kitchen was CLEAN! thanks to hubby. The living/dinning room on the other hand lmbo was a huge mess! Dad goes looking in the fridge before heading to the grocery store and says "What's going on here?" I said "2 cakes for Susie's class party 1 for mom's work and cupcakes for the house" he just says "Oh" and walks away. I mean come on now I can't leave 3 cakes sitting on the counter weather they are covered in containers or not with 4 kids in the house.

So back to decorating.... While I'm decorating the cupcakes that are specifically for the house and the kids to eat, my little almost 8 year old comes up to me and says "mommy can I try that?" so I put the bag of yellow frosting in her hand and I hold her hands and help her through it and of course she's a natural lol. I guess she takes after me with the decorating. She did a wonderful job for a 7 year old.

So I'm sitting there putting the finishing touches on everything and I'm done with the cakes and cupcakes, I go down stairs to our "room" and count the lollipops I made for her class party as well. I made these out of chocolate, orange, and white candy melts last week. I'm 3 short!!!!! Now I know darned well I had made 30 lollipops each mold holds 10 I made 3 sets. Well how come I only have 19 lollipops?! I know Mom had one last week when I was wrapping them up so that was the 20th but where on earth did the other 10 go!? No one knows, or at least they aren't fessing up to it lol. I think hubby took them to work not knowing I had just enough for the kids and the teacher to each get one lol. So now I have to make more lollipops tonight for the party tomorrow and hopefully I'll have enough ribbon to tie them up lol.

So yes I miss the times Susie was little little but I didn't start cake decorating until this year well big time decorating. And now we think I'm expecting (finally!) so I have nothing but happy times to look forward to again lol. Susie used to take the cupcakes off the counter and smash them in her mouth and run lol. The cake decided to sneak back in the house too early for my liking and decided to "pussy foot" all over my freashly iced-still wet-cake and got icing from one end of the kitchen to the other plus the carpet in the living room and the couch and the tv until I finally booted him back outside lol. The dog tripped my with his chain while carrying a cake to the car to take to a birthday party and my car ended up eating it lmbo. So needless to say I had to take out of pocket and go buy one for that party with only 30 minutes to spare I didn't have time to make and decorate another.

Anyway this book is really long so I'm closing thanks all for skimming thru and letting me vent a little too icon_wink.gif

Happy Baking!
