I have been decorating for about 6 years now, and I have only ever been introduced to buttercream. Recently I introduced myself to Fondant!! Now I am on here and am reading about crusting buttercreme, soft buttercreme, gumpaste, ganache, marzipan, snow icing and these letters MMF?? Now can I ask if anyone can explain these differences to me? Also how to use them and what works best!!! I am so excited about learning all these new ideas. Oh yeah and how do you all ice cookies so smooth I use royal icing but I pipe it on and its all lumpy!! Thank you so much for your inspirations and tips!!! Brandi

well the only answers i can give are MMF is marshmellow fondant and i love it. made with marshmallows powdered sugar and a little crisco. is cheep and easy to make and i can controll consistancy of it. it is what i always use when i use fondant. as far as ganache i ust started using it makes a pretty and elegant drippy look. and i always use cristing buttercream. i just use the wilton recipie with a few flavor tweeks. 1 cup crisco, 4 cups powdered sugar, 1 tbl marange powder, i table spoon flavoring (i use 1/2 vanilla and 1/2 almond) and a few table spoons water to the thickness you like. Also gumpast is similar to fondant but i gets harder and dries out faster. also better to use with flowers and figures as it can be molded better and dries quicker. i dont use gumpast i add tylose powder to my MMF. hope that helps i am still a newbei myself so i am learning all kinds of cool stuff on here.

Gum Paste is a product tha is used to make flowers and figures of all kinds etc. (Brief Description) It hardens after sitting for a day or two depending on the thickness.

Fondant is used to cover cakes, cookies, make cut out designs and more. I haven't ever used this so I know there is more things that it's used for.

Marzipan is made from an almond paste. I used it to make real looking fruits and vegetables for a harvest cake. You can use it for other things too, I just haven't yet.

Royal Icing when thinned down is called colorflo. The cookies you seen are filled in with colorflo and the edges and detail with RI.

These are just some breif descriptions I'm sure others will be able to add more as I am basically a beginner of sorts.

HTH,
Kat
