Will it be stable enough? Or will it make the cake get all soggy? I'm thinking about doing a walnut spice cake with an applesauce filling, and while it sounds delicious, I don't want the cake to fall apart.

Thanks a bunch!

I wouldn't ..... I'd try to find an apple filling, like the sleeve fillings.

My daughter makes a cake where she uses applesauce instead of oil to make it lower in fat. (it doesn't taste like apples, tho).

I've heard of that substitution-- it supposedly works up to about 1/3 of a cup and after that it doesn't do very well. I have never tried it.

I'm in Weight Watchers, so believe me, I have tried subbing applesauce for oil in several recipes, usually with great results. icon_biggrin.gif

I decided to get out all my cookbooks tonight and, wouldn't you know it, I came across a recipe for a walnut apple cake with caramel cream cheese filling - I think that will work out just dandy for a fall party, almost like a caramel apple cake. Yummy!
