Hi-- I may be wrong but I thought that Cake Mate decorations that you can buy at the store were made of royal. I found out when experimenting with royal that my decorations are not anywhere near this strong.

Does anyone know why this would be? Or does anyone know a recipe for make sugar creations as hard as this? Thanks!

I never even considered that they were anything other than a royal icing. Since they are commercially made there is probably some sort of a preservative in them. I really can't answer that but that's a good question.
