I posted about this a while back, but I didn't have a lot of information on what my neighbor wanted. I am making 50 cupcakes for a Navy Chief promotion party. I would like to use the Anchor some how ,but I am a lost on what to do. The party is September 22. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

could you possibly find a mold for an anchor and put chocolate candy shaped as anchors on the cupcakes? or you could just use the navy candy mold they have and makes chocolate navy emblems and put those on the cake....?

I have this mold and really like it. You could use semi sweet chocolate, white chocolate or if you are really ambitious you could use gumpaste and paint in the design with petal dusts and alcohol when the gumpaste has dried. I would ice the cupcakes in a pretty swirl of buttercream and prop the chocolate design up at an angle with a little bit of piped icing. They also carry a cute anchor, just type in "Anchor" in the search area.

You could do a royal icing anchor or there is a navy ice cube tray that you could make chocolate molds with or a fondant press. http://www.soldiercity.com/product-exec/product_id/11957/affiliate_id/1280/keyword/11957
That's the link for the tray. I saw it before at the NEX in Pensacola and I though about getting it but didn't. I wish I had. My husband is a Seabee in the Navy and I'm always looking at navy stuff for decorating. Good luck with your cupcakes. usaribbon.gif

O.K., I asked DH his opinion (retired Navy) and he said you should find out if they are a Chief, (E-7), Senior Chief (E-icon_cool.gif, or Master Chief (E-9). Depending on the ranking, they would have a different number of stars with the anchor insignia. Also, you could find out their military specialty is (radioman, sonar tech, etc.) and that may give you other ideas. Gotta love the input from your lovey!! icon_lol.gif

The link Ms. ShirleyW posted, I love that mold as well! What I would do is make some chocolates using the mold and put them on top of the cupcakes... now, since it is a chief promotion, and that is when they start wearing the anchor on their uniform (I see why they want anchors...) Maybe make some out of fondant with a cookie cutter (a home made cookie cutter) and again, as Ms. Shirley said, use gold luster dust with alcohol to get it right. A lot of work BUT very cute!
BTW, I just made some "home made cookie cutters", so easy with great results! HTH

I made a cake for a Navy retirement party. I made royal icing color flow anchors that I attached to the edges of the cake. I've made royal icing color flow for cucpcakes (sailboats) and they are fragile. You could also make them with chocolates so that they are sturdier. I'll try to attach the picture. Well, it didn't work but it's in my photos. icon_biggrin.gif

I have that mold too. I haven't used it yet but the details are so small if you were going to paint them.

You could make miniature anchors out of royal or chocolate. I have a large anchor made out of color flow in my gallery.

Definately find out if they are promoted to Chief, Senior, or Master Chief. I would think Master Chief a cake would be in line rather than cupcakes UNLESS that is what they specifically asked for.

Find out their rating and you can put that on some cupcakes and an anchor on the others.

You can have a lot of fun with this. For a display you can display them in the shape of an anchor. Of course this depends on how many you will be making. You could display them on a nice decorative tray and make a fondant rope and tassels and weave that in between the cupcakes.

Can you tell I've done the rope a time or two? icon_rolleyes.gif It's my favorite thing to put on my cakes.

Good luck and I can't wait to see your display.

Thanks to everyone who has posted great ideas for me to expand on. I have decided to make a couple of cupcakes cakes instead of indiv. cupcakes. I will try to do a frozen buttercream transfer or chocolate transfer. I will work on it.
I will post when I have finished the cake. If anyone has any more suggestions I so welcome them . I love this site. icon_biggrin.gif
