I was thinking about purchasing some tappit cutters but was wondering if these are like the new gumpaste letter cutters from wilton? Do you simply roll out fondant and then press down and there is your letter? Is the fondant hard to get out of the cutter and if you do get them out, are the letters distorted? Thanks for any information!

I have used the tappits and they kind of take some getting used to. Best used with gumpaste rolled very thin that has air dried a little before pressing in the tappits, otherwise the letters are nearly impossible to get out! I've not tried them with fondant, I think they would be very distorted by the time you would get the letters out of the tappits.

I think they are intened to be used with gumpaste rolled very thin as Mencked stated. When applied to the gumpaste use a scrubbing motion to cut through then use a needle to pull the shape out (just don't stick it all the way through). HTH

I don't think you would ever get the fondant shape out of the cutter in one piece because fondant can't be rolled as thin as gumpaste. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have used them with fondant. Just roll fondant thin. Let it air dry for approx 10 min. Press letters and leave them in the mold for another 5-10 min before removing. You can also use cornstarch or luster dust on fondant to make it easier to remove before pressing letters.

I love the FMM tappits and have used them with fondant. Just let the fondant strip airdry a bit, brush the paste and cutter with cornstarch before pressing the cutter. The cut out pieces come out easy.

I also use them with fondant. You can see the results on some of the cakes in my pics. I find the block letters are easier to use than the script, but either work fine once you get used to them. I roll the fondant very thin, then let it sit for a few minutes before cutting out. If your fondant is very sticky, they won't work as well.
