have any of you ever baked cupcakes in a cupcake paper cup on top of a cookie sheet? I want to make mini cupcakes but i only have 1 pan and was wondering if i could put the cups on a cookie sheet, fill & bake. What do you guys think?

I don't know if that is a good idea. I think the liner by itself will be too flimsy and you will lose the 'cupcake shape when baking. Also I wonder if the liners will get too hot (since the metal will not be there to absorb the heat).

I'd be interested to know if this would work. Anyone else? icon_surprised.gif

I have done it and your cupcakes will not come out round. They will be very odd shapes. I would just bake one batch at a time if you only have one pan.

I have regular cupcake pans but i guess the same would happen because there will be space between the cup and the pan. oh well, 1 at a time i guess. i think i'll try 1 for the heck of it but using 2 paper cups.

If you use the shiny silver aluminum type cupcake holders, they theoretically can be used without the muffin pan. It even says so on the packaging but I've never tried it. If you are using the regular paper liners, I don't think it will work.

go to the store......and get the glad Or reynolds' brand cupcake liners.....wilton makes them too....they have that silver foil cupcake liner and a white paper inside.....those are made for just that.....I use them all the time because I only have a 6 cup muffin tin......and once I figured those liners out I NEVER use my muffin tin.....I can fit like 30 on a cookie sheet.....they look exactlly the same as regular muffin in those....then when they're done you can either leave the silver foil one on (kinda looks nice) or slip it off....only the white paper one will be attatched to the cupcake itself. I think they're like 1 dollar for 36 or 50 of the liners something like that!

I use those silver foils all the time, but I take out the white papers in between. You mean I can leave those in????

I love the silver foils, no mess with cleaning up the muffin pans or messing with them (I really don't like them!). icon_smile.gif

ok i just took a peek in the oven and the few i did in a regular muffing pan with the mini cupcake cups are not rising up, they are spreading out. I'm guessing i wont get a nice dome on those but for my design it wont be too bad. It was a good try anyway.

KHalstead thanks for the info, i'll definately look into those next time i go to the grocery store, i bought these halloween mini cups and wanted to use them.

Thanks everyone for the replys.

I'm glad I found this post. I need to make 2000 mini-cupcakes and I was just going to do them on a sheet. Yikes...What am I going to do now? I don't want to by pans. icon_confused.gif

you can line your sheet pans with pieces of rolled up foil making a grid over the top of the pan......it's work.....but it does help them keep their shape........or you can try to find disposable mini muffin pans......they must be out there somewhere......then you could buy like 10 without spending a fortune.

They make the silver foil cups in mini size, so if you can find those, you'll be fine!

creativecakesbylindsay why dont you look for the reynolds brand that KHalstead suggested. She says that its about a buck for 30 or 50 count. I'm not sure where you are located but this would definately be a good option for you. wow 2000 thats alot of cupcakes. Not sure if you are using box mix but with 1 dh box mix i just made about 65 mini cupcakes.

Did you say 2000 cupcakes? icon_eek.gif WOW that is a lot! I once made 260 mini's for an american flag CCC that I did, but I could not imagine doing 2000 of those little boogers. For these, It took 2 days (have a full, time job, gotta sleep thumbsdown.gif ), but I put the ones that I baked the 1st day in a flat glad container. Let them cool really good, fill the bottom, layer of paper towel, more cupcakes, paper towel, etc. Good Luck
