What handsome young men you have! Hope their first day went well. We don't start until after Labor Day. MI law (I believe it starts this year) was passed to start after Labor Day since we are a tourist state and starting before the holiday cuts into the holiday travel plans, etc which cuts into the money spent throughout the state. But anyways, hope all went well for the boys! Jodie

We started Wednesday and I was sad. icon_cry.gif My son wasn't too happy either, he hates the first few weeks of school where they're getting everyone grouped for reading.
My youngest has been THRILLED though, he has me to himself but he's been driving me up the wall because he doesn't know what to do without his brother. When my MIL picked him up Friday I did a little dance, he was happy to go and it let me have a couple quiet minutes. He does this every year and in a couple weeks he gets used to it, next year he'll be at school too and that makes me even sadder. icon_cry.gif

The teachers seem really nice and willing to challenge my kid.

When we met the teachers last week I was told they'd be starting multiplication right away, I honestly thought that meant in a few weeks when they were done with review. The first day of school my son came home with them so they weren't kidding.
My mother says it's terrible that they're starting before Labor Day, she lives in a state that doesn't start until after but I keep telling her we get more days off during the year, we have 2 full weeks for Christmas where most of the schools by them go back right after the new year.

Our teachers went back Aug. 6 and the students arrived Aug. 13. They do this so the high schools can get 1st semester exams done before the winter holidays. We are out around Memorial Day. Usually this isn't so bad, but this year GA has been hit with triple-digit temperatures, and the kids are suffering on the buses, we have red alert ozone days and can't take them outside, and it has been pretty tough.

Our kids don't go back until after Labor Day, and last year they had almost three weeks off at Christmas. They get nice vacations...which I love because I miss them when they are in school!

We started on Monday the 13th for high school (I have a ninth grader) and Wed the 15th for elementary (my 5th and pre-K). Our district has all-day kinder and pre-K. My DD is doing pre-k; she will be 5 on November 5. Our cutoff date is Dec 2 but hubby and I feel that is too late, so we want to hold her one more year. Pre-K is perfect!

Well, we went to kindergarten roundup the day before, so I guess she felt pretty comfortable. She and my 5th grader got on the bus, and she told me, "you don't have to follow it; I'm not a baby"! Oooookay. She and son are at different schools (his doesn't offer the pre-K), so the bus picks them both up, then drops son off at his school and her off at her school, so she was finding her class by herself...no brother to help. But I figured there would be lots of people to help.

She had a GREAT day! She came home smiling from ear to ear. She said she couldn't find her class, so she just kept looking then found it icon_lol.gif

And I was LOVING the peace and quiet...three kids in school from 8-4, only one kid left at home (alas, she is two...but still)
