So yesterday I did something really stupid! I normally don't wear anything I wouldn't want to get icing color on, but I had gone to the store and came home and got started on the cake I had to do. I wasn't decorating yet, just baking the cupcakes and making the icing so I didn't really think about it.

One of the colors on the cake was a dark navy, so I'm adding the color to the icing. I was using Americolor but my navy was really thin for some reason. I added some more coloring to the icing and went to start mixing it. Well it splashed back up on to my sweatshirt. Brand new sweart shirt that my parents brought me back from a trip. First time to wear it.

I'm standing there thinking about what to do next. I pull it off and decide to take a trip to my mom's. She lives near by. I was afraid to try anything because I was worried I would make it worse. She raised three kids so I figured she'd have a better idea on how to remove it.

She was a mircale worker. I got quite a bit of color on it. Three or four large splatters and many smaller ones. She used fingernail polish remover on it. Pouring some on and working at the stain. After she got most of it out she put a little dish washing liquid on the spots and washed it.

You can not tell I got anything on it, nor did the fingernail polish affect the color of the sweat shirt, which was a blue color.

Anyway, just thought I would share this with everyone else in cause you ever have the same problem. icon_smile.gif

hrmm....good tip.

my hairdresser has some sort of spray that she sprays on the hair dye that she gets on her clothes and she says that it works great! i wonder if you could use it for food coloring too. i'll ask her the name of the spray next time i go in,

What kind of fingernail polish remover? Or does it make a difference?

I'd never heard of that~I always thought polish remover would sorta "bleach" something...it's good to know it won't.

I do this all of the time (I'm pretty messy)....when your 14 yo step son says you make a mess when making him a cake, then you must be making a huge mess, lol!!!

Good to know. I got a big blob of red on the back shoulder of one of my t-shirts (I don't quite know how I did that icon_redface.gif ) and I didn't realize it until I had gotten in the car and my daughter noticed a dark stain on the back of the car seat! Thankfully my shirt was dark blue and you couldn't tell there was a stain on it, but there is still a nickel sized dot on the car seat.

It was just a basic acetone polish remove. I'm not sure what brand, but I'm pretty sure it was just a store brand.

We were worried at first about it taking the color out but it was either big blobs of navy color or bleached out sweatshirt.
