Question About Class Kits And Such
Decorating By Cakeasyoulikeit Updated 1 Mar 2007 , 6:27pm by fmcmulle
Hi all,
I am going to take the Wilton class next month because I have applied to teach Wilton classes and have a few gaps to fill in. Plus, I figure the best training would be to take the class (and as luck with have it, it's 50% off in Feb). So, anyway, my question is: do I HAVE to buy the kit? I already have the coursebook and colors and I am pretty sure I have all the tips. I don't have the oval pans, but have plenty of other ones (although I've been thinking about getting an oval set). So the short of it is: has anyone taken a class once you've been into cake decorating for a while (6 years for me) and just used the items you already had??
Thanks!
Hi! I have taken the Wilton classes (all 3) and my instructor told us as long as we had the tips and materials we needed, we were not required to purchase the kit. The only reason for the oval pans in Course 2 is that it doesn't take as long to put the basketweave on it --which you do in class the last night, because the pans are not very big. I hope this helps.
I went back and took Course 2 about 21 years after Course 1. In the meantime, I had self taught myself a lot of the cake techniques, so I had most of the equipment needed. You do not have to buy the kits, just check the listing on the boxes to be sure you have everything. Oh, and I just got a set of those little oval pans finally and love them!
