Hi everyone. I was encouraged to post this here as a "heads up" in case you should want to put a cake with this symbol on your site. The symbol below is a "Messianic Jewish" symbol (Christians who follow some Jewish traditions), not a traditional Jewish symbol. If you are posting a cake with this symbol on your site please don't label it as a Jewish symbol. You will most likely offend traditional Jews. A lot of traditional Jews do not keep kosher so I would hate for you to offend someone who might otherwise buy from your site.

Here are a couple of links to some info about this symbol if you are interested:
http://www.olimpublications.com/MessianicSeal.htm
http://www.gnfi.org/external/messianic_seal.html

Also this link talks about the fact that all Jewish groups, Israel and even most Christian groups consider "Messianic Jews" to be Christians.

I think all the groups would agree that calling it a "Messianic Jewish" symbol or a "Christian Jewish" symbol is more accurate.

Additionally, I would appreciate if anyone ever sees an error on my site which misrepresents any religious group, please email me right away. I do not wish to offend anyone with a mistake about their faith!

Thanks,
Kathi

THANKS Kathik!

It's always good to know about issues that might bring offense.

Even I can see how this would be (not just could be) offensive to many Jews.

I was immediately struck by the incorporation of the fish.

The fish is one of the most ancient symbols used by Christians (dusting of church history notes from college -- it was originally a way for Christians to easily identify themselves to each other without raising suspicion during the persecutions under the Romans)

Sensitivity to what might be deemed offensive is being "PC" -- it's just plain good manners!

I'm just bumping this up to the top so a few more people can see this.

Thanks,
Kathi

and I just noticed a typo (so typical)

that line should read:

Sensitivity to what might be deemed offensive is NOT being "PC" -- it's just plain good manners!
