This is a dummy cake that I made to show one of my best friends. I have decided to make her upcoming wedding cake as a gift and this is one of the designs that we chose. The original design is by Cecile Gady of Cakework, San Francisco and was a 4 tier all ivory round. Please give me your honest opinion. Her colors are ivory, pastel yellow and persimmon. The wedding is in early spring, 2007 and I want to try out a few designs first. Thanks!!!!

I think you did a good job but you really should be asking the soon to be bride. It's her wedding and she should be the one to pick out the style she likes.

Sophisticated and elegant.

The bride chose wisely when she asked you to do the cake.
Great job!

Have you and the bride talked about cake flavors/fillings yet.

Bet she chooses something unique for that as well.

Please keep us posted icon_biggrin.gif

P.S. Love the cake stand.

I think the overall cake is fine. You might try making the strips on the cake a little more even and straight. Some are wider. I am not real fond of callalilies, but I see that perhaps some stargazer lilies in the tones of the colors would look nice to me. It is just a matter of preference. Good Luck with your cake.

I think it looks good....one thing that catches my eye, tho--the joins (?) in the tiers. I can see shadows there, and that tends to detract from the color scheme. Could you add a tiny ribbon or pearls or rope?

Other than that, it's a very nice cake. Clean lines, good proportion, modern design. I really like the colors....I'd call it elegant. LOL

Take that with a grain of salt, tho...I'm certainly FAR from an expert, and really hated to be so blunt.

HTH

Thanks everyone. JanH, we haven't discussed flavors or fillings yet b/c we're still trying to decide on the actual design. She is a very easygoing person and was floored when I offered to make the cake since I am in the wedding and will be flying from Louisiana to Wisconsin to attend. She says she didn't want to ask for anything else b/c of the travel. As soon as she picks out other designs, I'll make dummies for those as well so that she can have a choice. I fell in love with this stand at the Viking Outlet in Destin and this is the first chance I've had to actually use it.
The lines are somewhat uneven because I didn't have a large enough square cutter but I plan to buy one before the wedding to avoid the problem. Again, thanks everyone for the comments/constructive criticism!!!!

hi i'm no expert i think the cake looks great, although i do agree with riana on the lillies maybe you could alternate the colors.
yellow for orange
orange for yellow
that way i think they would really stand out as they are alot of the focus on a wedding cake
