I am making this 3 tier shell cake from the sugarcraft website for 200 people. Would any one know about how many shells I would need for a cake this large? Also, Does anyone know the color luster dust I need for the color of starfishes and other shells? I am putting starfishes alot larger then these and would like them to look like natural starfishes. Any help would be appreciated.

I would make more than you think you will use just in case of breakage, at the same time I kind of think the 'Less is more" theory works well, too many and the cake will just look crowded. You want to be able to see the beauty of each shell. A natural Starfish color in petal dust is one Nicholas Lodge carries, called Cream. I used it on this Starfish because I didn't want a luster or shine to it, a natural Starfish is matte rather than shiny. Having said that, if you want shine you could dust with the cream first and then go over it lightly with Super Pearl luster dust. My guess would be about 4 dozen shells, it depends on if you want them all the way around the cake or only the front and sides.
