I thought I just posted this question, but I couldn't find it!
I was just on KK's website to look for airbrushes for my Christmas list, and now they are only advertising them for makeup and tanning! Aren't they a website for cakes?? icon_confused.gif

And they are selling the compressor seperatley from the brush and hoses etc. What do I need?? The expensive compressor or the cheaper one. The small airbrush bowl or the large one? Single or double action? What's the difference?? icon_confused.gif

Any advice?

first dont go through KK. you can get a better deal at several other places.
You want the more expensive compressor. It produces more PSI which will atomize your colors better. You definately want a double action. The double gives you more control. A double action allows you to control air, and color. A single only allows you to control the amount of color. You also do not have to use KK. We use the KK compressor and have one of the brushes, but we prefer our Paasche. It does better detail and is cheaper. I got a whole kit (case, hose, extra needle, 2 color cups) for $64 shipped. The extra needle allows you to adjust your spray pattern from hairline to 1 inch. The 2 color cups make for quick and easy changing of colors.

Kopykake is running a special right now, either through the ICES newsletter or American Cake Decorating. It is about $200 for the Airmaster compressor (the better one) With the pen, hose, and starter bottles of color.

On the left side of their homepage, in the blue boxes, second box down, is the link to cake decorating supplies.

Call their 800 number and ask them about the special.

I am also doing research on air brushes and I noticed that Hobby Lobby sales the Paasche air brush, if we wait for the 40% off, pretty good deal. But then which air compressor? What are some good things to look for?

Okred --

That is why I bought the Kopykake Airmaster. It has more features in it that make it more compatible with cake decorating.

Check out their site and read the features. You won't find a compressor like that at Hobby Lobby.

I agree that the KK Airmaster compressor is a nice one to work with. It is simple and easy to use and maintain. Definately the one you should get. The downside of the KK compressor is that the male hose fiting is not a standard fitting for other airbrushes. In order to use a standard hose you have to switch the push on male fitting for a standard threaded male fitting. You can pick one up at Home Depot for a couple of dollars. There are better airbrushes out there for a lot less money.

I would agree with cigarherb here. I found kopykake compresor and single action brush online. (I'm trying to find the website to post) for $224 and that included shipping. I have since bought a paasche double action brush that I bought in place of the KK single action brush. There are other options than kopykake out there that I think you all need to explore. www.dickblick.com has a lot of airbrushes. They even have on that uses canned air for cheap that you can use to try out first.
