I'm doing a 3 tiered, stacked cake, 12, 10, 8. I bought these 6 inch hidden pillars because I'm not good cutting the wooden dowels. I planned on doing a 2 layer cake on each tier. I then got the bright idea to add another layer to the 12 in cake so I could just push the pillars in, attach a separator plate the same size as the next tier and set it directly on top.

BAD IDEA!! I have this big 6 in high 12 inch round cake and the other 2 tiers are about 4 inches tall so I know it is not going to look right. I had extra batter so I baked 2 - 6 in rounds.

I'm trying to decide if I should just complete the 6 in cake and stack the 10,8, 6 and try and find something to do with that 12 in (what I have no earthly idea since i've already pushed the pillars into it). Or should I take the 3rd layer off of the 12 in, wipe off the filling and frost the top?

This is for my aunt's 60th surprise bday party tomorrow and I'd like for it to look nice.

Please give me some suggestions on what to do to salvage this.

Thanks a lot.

You have several options. You could take the top layer off of the 12", and reice it. You could then either leave the pillars at 6" and fill in the 2" gap with flowers..or you can cut the pillars to 4" and have the next cake flat on it. Or you could do like you said and scrap the 12" and use the 10 8 6. If you do that you will still have to decide if you want to fill the 2" gap between the cakes with something ...or cut the pillars to 4" or whatever your cakes end up being.

Thanks for the reply. I'm leaning torwards removing the 3rd layer and re-icing. I wish I had asked the board before just adding the extra layer icon_smile.gif. It would have saved me a lot of headache.
