I am making a basket (flower;woven) out of a butter pecan cake mix and using butter pecan mousse filling. Hopefully, I am going to carve into an oval curved basket. Anyway, my question(s) are: 1) any suggestions on additions to enhance the flavor of the cake mix and make it carveable and 2) what flavor of icing (I will be doing a basketweave pattern so something pipeable. Thanks so much!!

HI. I'm not sure how much pecan flavor you want but I made a cake today using praline coffee syrup, mixed it right into the batter. I've also used it before in BC it taste great and smells wonderful and the bc you can still pipe.

I suggest that you use the cake mix extender recipe from this site. This results in an awesome, moist cake that is dense enough to carve or use a puound cake recipe which is also great for carving. I would just go with a regular vanilla BC icing since your cake and filling are both pecan. Just my 2 cents!
