Duncan Hines has either a sour or sweet & sour cake recipe in one of their cake mix books.
They also said chocolate cherry would appeal to kids.

I'm with KHalstead, (love your avatar) for fun flavors!

My contribution would be that there are more kids now with allergies, and food sensitivities so what you shouldn't offer (without checking with the buyer):

chocolate
peanut butter
anything with nuts

Sorry to be a party pooper, but no child wants to see a pretty cake and not be able to have some.

I have used kool-aid in my cakes before too. Just added it to white cake and it makes really cool colors and some unique flavors like lemonade!
You could also make peanut butter and jelly cake. Just an idea. Little Debbie makes them.
