Hello I need some help..I love Itallian torted cakes However due to Religous purposes can not use the Rum syrup to moisten cake layers. Is there any kind of syrup I can use to keep the layers moist and give them flavor??? Help my wedding is in March and need to decide how I am making the cake thank you all.......Candice
You can use any type of simply syrup. I've used coffee syrups (like at Starbucks) and just put the syrup in a spray bottle and sprayed the cake. Or you can make your own. Use equal parts sugar and water, and heat until the sugar is dissolved. You could also use any flavoring with that.
if you are not able to use any alchohol based syrup due to your religious convictions, make sure that you read the bottles carefully.
A LOT of the flavorings are alcohol based...did you ever hear of someone's granny busted at the supermarket for drinking the vanilla? lol
I remember my mom adding a little vanilla and sugar to baby bottles!!! it sure put us to sleep ...
PRONTO! lol
thanks to all who responded I needed the help...lol
I make a simple syrup with equal parts granulated sugar and water, usually make 1 cup of each, boil till sugar is dissolved. Cool and you can then flavor with any extract you especially like, but go easy, just a few drops or it will be too strong. Or, and this is my best seller, add 1 T. instant coffee granules to the sugar and water, boil, remove from heat and add 1 T. Kahlua. I know you can't use alcohol on this cake, but you might like to try this another time. It is good brushed on white or chocolate cakes.
One mistake I made on a torted cake was to use different flavors in simple syrup. It doesn't work well because the layers are so thin the extract or syrup will make each layer taste of whatever the strongest extract might be. I used lime flavor on one and raspberry on the other. The entire cake tasted of lime. It was good but not what I meant to happen.
