Annlou and myself are interested in a support group in the Pittsburgh area. Does anyone know of any or would be interested in starting a support group?
Both of my parents are from Pittsburgh (Cheswick) and I'll stop by and say hello anytime we are in town visiting family (Butler, Chicora, Pittsburgh suburbs, etc.). *wave*
Do that MichelleM77. If you are near Dayton, you might want to consider doing the helmet cake. My brother lives there and he drives all the way to Pittsburgh to get a helmet cake. Duh...
I think I'm about 3 hours from Dayton. Darn! LOL!
I actually had family from Chicora in town for lunch today. They do that a lot, drive 3 hours for lunch and then drive home. ![]()
I am a Burgh native Verona actually and have seen a few people on here from the area- Hope you all can get this started- To the one from Cheswick- have you ever had Glenn's just visited there last week and ate it four times- love it!!
Good luck and I will be watching this thread
Yes, I know where Glenn's Custard is! Down on the main road into town right off the freeway. I've actually never had it, but have heard it's good.
I'll be heading to Pittsburgh next weekend for a family reunion, but just going for the day or I would have loved to meet some fellow CC'ers. Next time...........
kchart,
great! As soon as we nab a few more folks we will PM everyone.
marcimang,
When was the last time you guys were here? I have no clue where Glenn's Custard is. I live right by Longvue Country Club and go down into Verona all of the time.
I actually just came back from there last week- took a trip to see my parents with my three kids!!! FUn drive. My mom and dad live on Center Ave and my mom owns a shop in Oakmont called the designer's shoppe.
What a small world. I may go back for Christmas. Glenn's is in Springdale right on the main drag- If you have never had Glenn's you must get it- it would be a crime to live that close and never taste the smooth rich and velvety goodness!!!!!
love your steelers cake I did one too for my son's 13th bday
OMG... I just told DH that I wanted to stop in that shop. It's on the top of part of Allegheny River Blvd - near the movie theater right? I'll definitely check out both places!
I would be intrested but I'm about 1 1/2 away, near Altoona, Pa.
I would be intrested in doing something like a business exchange if anyone is licensed. I have had a few calls for cakes out that way and it would be too expensive for the customer for me to deliver. It would be great to have a few names and numbers of people in different areas to pass business along to. If any one is interested, pm me and we can exchange info.
Valerie
I'm originally from the New Castle area, but travel back home about 4 times a year. I'd love to get together with 'yins'!
I was there a few weeks ago and went to the Strip and bought a t-shirt with Pittsburghese Definitions on it.
Definition of 'yins': "yous" to the east and "y'all" to the south
here are few more:
blitzburgh: a drinking town with a football problem
jaggers: thorns
jeetjet? No, j'ew?: Did you eat yet? No, did you?
nebby: nosey to a fault
pensivania: The state where friends and memories last a lifetime
picksburgh: the greatest city in Pensivania
chipped ham: thinly sliced ham sold only in the Burgh
Stillers: five time Superbowl champs with unfinished business
stillmill: factory where stell is produced
jynt igle: a popular supermarket
pop: a carbonated beverage
LOL!! I still make fun of my mom who tends to get a bit of the ol Pittsburgh accent when she visits. She says maysure for measure (where we say mehsure), warter (water), etc. Gram always used to call the couch a davan, but that might just be old school and not PA. I have a cousin who says dahntahn for downtown. I didn't realize chipped ham was a Pittsburgh thing. I guess now that I think about it, the stores here list it as chopped ham, but we've always said chipped because that's what mom and dad called it. Stillers cracks me up every time I hear it! Went to Colorado for my sister's wedding and got strange looks when I asked for pop (the rest of the country seems to say soda). Gotta love regional accents.
I decided not to go to PA this weekend for the family reunion, but sending kiddo in my place.
Oh! How I wish I could participate!!
I'm really only back home for Christmas and weddings right now, though. Used to live in Bloomfield with my hubby, who grew up in Beaver Co.
But I'll be making more Steelers cakes very soon- maybe I'll try the helmet cake for next weekend!
It's just amazing how many fans are here in LA.
