Hi everyone,
I am going to do a dummy cake to be displayed near glass doors & windows and I wanted to do something really girly pink and mauve type colours but I have read on here before (and had noticed it myself previously with pink) that these colours tend to fade and discolour quite quickly when exposed to UV light. The dummy would be covered in fondant, should I just give up on the idea of using those colours?
If I airbrushed it instead of tinting the fondant would that be any better?
Does anyone have and info or tips on this type of thing that they would be willing to share?
thanks ![]()
I don't think airbrushing will fix the problem of the colors fading. However, would it be possible to occasional "touch-up" the colors by airbrushing back to original colors?
(Not sure if this would work, but perhaps others will have further suggestions!!)
Thanks for your suggestions ![]()
Would shellac give it a shiny finish? I really want the cake to look like it would if they were to order one from me (which wouldn't be shiny).
I guess the re-airbrushing would work the only thing would be if I have put decorations over the airbrushing (piping/flowers etc) how to re-do it with out messing it up.(I still have my airbrushing training wheels on
)
I might just have to pick a different colour scheme unless anyone else has any other ideas?
Thanks again
Please tell us, what features are you decorating in these colours, and what will they be made of?

Alternately, you could allow the fondant on the dummy to dry completely, then airbrush it with acrylic paint. You would probably have to hand paint any decorations.

Yes, I mean the stuff in the bottles that they sell in craft stores, not the tube stuff.
And yes, you would have to use a separate airbrush. I don't know about there in OZ, but here at my local AC Moore, I picked up a crafter's airbrush with propellant canister for around $30. Look around and see if you can find a deal like that.

cant you buy a can of clear matt paint spray, i know i did this once when i painted a sign for my kids cubby house, because it was going to be outside. i just sprayed over with the clear spray can and four years later its still the same color it was when i done it....
you should find it at mitre 10 with the spray paint tins. just look for clear!!!!
