OK, this might sound like a "duh newbie!" question... but I'll ask anyway. Has anyone ever tried to marble two colors of fondant where the dark color is black? I'm thinking of doing a hot pink/black marble... but I have a bad feeling that a color as dark as black will do more smearing and smudging than marbling...

Any ideas?

I don't know but that's sounds great.... black and pink. I wanted to re-do my daughter's bathroom in black, white and pink but my DH won't let me. icon_mad.gificon_cry.gif

I'm not sure but I think it is worth a try. I don't think black should smudge - it should "marble" just like any other color. Sounds like a really striking color combo to me - remember to post your pictures!

I have marbled both red and purple with black. Just do it like the tutorial on ateco's site! That is an awesome method!

Ateco's site? Where is the link for that? icon_smile.gif

I hope it comes out right! Those were the birthday girl's wedding colors... Her wedding anniversary and birthday are in the same month.

Since this is my first cake-fore-hire... My knees are knockin'! I'm way over-thinking this cake...hahaha...

I have marbled black and white together without a problem, however I used the Wilton Pre-colored black fondant. Maybe since it is already colored it has less of a chance of bleeding, I don't know but I know it worked good for me. Just wanted to pass it on to you maybe it will work for you too!

I did think about using a pre-colored fondant... but everyone on here says they would rather gnaw on their gym shoes than eat Wilton fondant... so I'll have to take my chances coloring my homemade stuff! icon_smile.gif

Why not take two small portions of the colors and try it? This will also help you see how much you want to mix the colors together to get the affect you want.

meg4cakes. you can get satin ice fondant in black. it is easier and taste better than wiltons. i get it from in the oven. i agree, try to small amounts first to see if it works. i've marbled with other colors so it shouldn't be a problem. good luck, post your pictures when done.

I just cannot seem to get my homemade fondant to turn out right so I always go with premade. I will have to try out the satin ice though because I agree with you on the Wilton fondant it does taste like paste! Thanks for the tip on Into the Oven, I will have to check them out! Good luck with your marbeling and be sure to post a picture for us to see!!!

Meg4cakes
I found this in the forum today and thought of you...

Have you any of you tried the black fondant by sweet inspiration? It is chocolate rolled fondant and it smells heavenly and it tastes just as good; it's like eating a tootsie roll. My favorite. It's freezer and refrigerator stable. The shelf life is about 6 months

thank you!!
it's really easy to do...

you can either mix in 2 different colored fondants or color the fondant with the soft gel colors.
