To put on an edible image? I would like to get my cake going so I can go out for a nice dinner tonight but I am worried that if I bake it right now and frost it when its cooled by the time I go to wal mart and have them print up my edible image and then come home it might not adhere right ... Do you guys put the image on before the buttercream has crusted, or do you wait until it has crusted? I basically just need to know what kind of time frame I have until its to late to put on the edible image ..

I've only used an edible sheet once and I think I put it on after the BC had crusted and I had smoothed it. (Also, I wanted to bump this up for you because I know there are tons of people who know about this thing! lol)

I think it is best to put it on before it crusts so that it sort of "melts" into the icing and merges with it.

Another option I've read about here on CC is to lightly mist your crusted icing with water from a fine misting spray bottle and then put your image on. I haven't tried it and the caution is always to not get it too wet or your image will run and smudge.

Another option would be to let it crust, put the image on, and then pipe some sort of border around the image to sort of glue it in place but I'm not sure what kind of design you are aiming for (some people do not want to outline the image).

I have only used the eddible images on fondant and in that case I jsut put a little piping gel on the back to make it stick. I don't see why you couldn't do that if the butter cream is crusted. Just takes a little bit.

awolf24 hit the nail on the head..........spritz VERY LIGHTLY if the BC has crusted to moisten the top and put the image in place like usual..............so go out, eat drink and be merry...........finish the cake later! thumbs_up.gif
