If she is interested in doing this then she can take the time to find her own secrets to success just like the rest of (including you) have. quoted from CarolynGwen
Geez, if that be the case then there would be no need for places like CC.
Thanks Indy for always sharing your experience and wisdom with us!!!

Let me explain myself... places like this are great. Not a single one of you are a direct competition or trying to be so I have no problem sharing recipes.
Techniques anyone can learn especially if they are taking the identical classes from the same teacher.
It's handing out the recipes that I do that are special and unique to me. I've always been that way since I started baking.
If your direct competitor across town walked in and started asking for your recipes would you give them? What if they wanted to know how you got your fondant so smooth would you tell them? What about your original special filling that took you months to get right and hundreds upon hundreds of attempts. Would you just hand it out with out a second thought if they asked for it?
If you say yes to all that then you are a better person than I and most bakeries/decorators I know. I run a business, and my original recipes and secrets to success are not something I would tell just anyone who asked for them if they are in the same town/county I work in.
My situations speaks from experience. The two times (different company each time) that I did share information they flopped on what I gave them and it bit me in the butt both times.
People asked where they got the recipes and my name was given and fingers were pointed towards me for the failure. I got the blame and the reputation for the bad job someone else did because it was "my recipe" and I was the professional cake decorator. It was my name damaged not theirs because the recipe came from me.
People who ate that bad cake would order for parties months later and tell me "please don't bake that "piece of s@$t" recipe for me that ________ made.
I share recipes all the time with my friends. they have shared in return with me but it has taken years for us to build that trust.
If they are both baking for fun then share away but if this original poster wants to go futher than casual baking then I stand by my words and say don't share your successes with her.
If this co-worker is so hot to trot for cake decorating like she appears to me and is smart enough to find CC like the original poster did then great she has an equal advantage to publicly posted information.
I just am not one to hand out my trade secrets and recipes to local people at the drop of a hat. If I did that I may as well close my doors and go back to baking as a hobby not as a career.
Thanks guys for all your wonderful comments. I want everyone to know that I am not a heart less person only thinking about herself. I am only 22 years old. I started taking the cake decorating b/c I hope in the nex 5 years to open my own home bakery. So I can spend more time with my husband and daughter. This woman I believe is just doing the classes for fun and maybe to make a cake for her kids.
When I bring my cakes I make it enough to share with all the floor, but I advise through emails. My team is the largest on the floor so they are usually first at them. I would NEVER make comments like she did.
I am so thankful for CC. Everyone here is so helpful to me and I know that if I ever have any questions or concerns about cakes I can turn to you!
Monday when I bring in my cake I will be HAPPY and remember everything that you have told me!
THANKS ALL!
in my old office i had just started getting into cake decorating and the whole office was thrilled because i was making office bday cakes, etc and a girl with a TON more experience than me (she has not only taken all the wilton classes but she also takes culinary classes at the local community college) moved in and started baking these from scratch masterpieces. we are talking home-made everything even CARAMEL this girl was serious. At first I was like this sucks I used to be the ONLY young, cute, cake baking girl in the office lol, and I think she thought the same thing about where she came from! but then I realized O.M.G. now I have someone my age with my interests to chat cake with all day!! We started splitting forces making office bday cakes (each bday honoree got to pick a flavor so we'd have 2 or 3 different little cakes) and we even had a cheesecake bakeoff!! the whole office loved it and most votes were "theyre both terrible, do-over!!" ![]()
anyways i just wanted to say that even if this other lady is serious or just doing it for fun, take advantage and learn from eachother. no need to play like a drug dealer and claim turf space hehe
