I am planning to make 8 cakes (one half of the ball pan) as centerpieces and would like to prop them up on pillars. Only problem is, I'm on a budget and the thought of purchasing 32 pillars for each cake hurts my pockets just thinking about it! Any home-made ideas for pillar substitutes? It's for a baby shower...

How about purchasing inexpensive vases or glass bowls that would raise up the cakes. You could make them look very pretty by decorating them with either flowers or baby items inside of the vases/bowls. They would make striking center pieces. thumbs_up.gif

How about painted wood dowel rods and wood circles at each end. You can paint them all different colors and it would def. be cheaper.

First, how tall do they need to be? You could use votive candle holders. Then put a small baby item in each one.
