Okay so I usually use gumpaste for my decorations that I want to harden, but this time I used fondant becuase I had it in the colors that I needed already made. I made slabs for a roof top on Tuesday night and I need to assemble the house tonight and the fondant is still soft.. like I can reroll it and reuse it.. I cant believe it I have read on here that so many people use fondant for so many things I thought I would try it but its still soft! I also made a lawnmower and now the handles wont stay up becuase they are to soft argh.. now its to late to make them out of gumpaste cuz they wont dry cakes are due tommorrow. Is there any way I can get this fondant to dry!! Keep in mind that I am at work and cant do anything to it until I get home at 4:30 at which time I need to start making the cakes for sat delivery...

I have put my fondant in a food dehydrater befor. Just make sure you put it on the top level or if you use it alot like me have some one who knows about electronics take out the heating element so it don't get hot and melt the fondant.

I make my figures out of fondant... just because I tend to work slowly and it doesn't dry out on me while I work... In fact, the figures I made yesterday are just about dry today. I use really cheap (Wilton) fondant for the figures. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.... Maybe the better stuff doesn't dry as fast??? Hope someone can help you with this... because I don't think I have been much help...

It never has hardened for me.
I had a cake dummy that I did in March, and when I took it apart several months later, the underbelly of it, right next to the dummy, was still soft!
Gumpaste is the best for what you are trying to do. Or some fondant with tylose mixed in.

I think this is a little late to help you now, but maybe this will help the next time you use fonant for figures.

I started a fondant class yesterday and they had us buy some Tylose Powder. I had never heard of it until then. You knead in 1 teaspoon for every 12 ounces of fondant. The teacher said that using this with fondant will make your fondant as hard as gumpaste. I just started the class yesterday and left the figures at the classroom so I won't know until next week if it worked for me.

Good Luck!

Hi Tnuty,
I had an issue last weekend when I went to put my dried fondant nemo guys on my cake and 2 of them broke. So, I quickly made a few new ones. I frantically looked on this site for help. Someone recommended blowing a hair dryer on the "cool" setting on the figures. I did that for a while, but had to attend to other cake stuff, so then I put them near an open window with a fan blowing on them. They weren't as dry as I would have liked, but were much drier than i expected in only 2 hour time! Good luck! Hope this helps!
