hey there everyone,
i am doing my first wedding cake for a friend's mom. she wants hearts, but i dont have any heart seperator plates, and havent been able to find them in any craft store ive been to. would it look terribly dumb if i put a 2-tiered heart cake on a round plate w/ a round seperator between those and the top tier? kinda a time-crunch, no time to order online. icon_cry.gif also, i know what those charts say about servings, but she only needs to feed 30 pp and i've planned a 6" heart for the couple to be the top heart tier. and a 9" and 12" for the bottom heart tiers. i'm sure thats way more than 30 servings, but i don't know how else to get the 3 tier look otherwise, considering those are the 3 smallest sizes. any suggestions there? and to top it all off, i quoted her around 75 bucks. i'm thinking that you always make mistakes, the first go round. icon_rolleyes.gif

Feel like making a trip to Orlando? D&G Occasions has the plates. When is the wedding? 3 Three tier heart cakes will be way to much cake for a 30 people. I had to do a two tier heart cake (in my photos) for 30 people. It was a 12 and 6. The top looks like a round but it isn't. It was plenty of cake she said. I also made a small cake for them to have on their 1st anniversary. I think $75 is way to cheap for this size cake. Let me know and maybe I can help you out if you can't make it over to Orlando

You can always use cardboard rounds and cut them to the shape you need, then just add a border so you cant see that they are cardboard..HTH

Can you get to a craft store? Get a sheet of foam core and trace the pan shape on it and cut them out..... it is sturdy too !!

thanks for the suggestions .. i did see the pic u were talking about, faye. good job. i will talk to my friend, and see if she likes the new plan of 2tiers. and since 75 seems so low, i think i'll just use the round plates. i will post a pic as soon as it is done. again, thanks for taking the time to shoot me some advice.

cut cardboard to shape, place on top of a round separator plate 2 inches smaller (so 6in round under 8in heart, 8in round under 10in heart, etc) fits just right
