How Do I Cover A Round Cake Board???'s

Hi, I am trying to think and my head is hurting...
How do I cover the round cake board over the sides so it turns out neat? It's not as easy like a square or rectangle. I am using contact paper and it is folding and creasing.
Should I just cover the top with contact and leave the side exposed, but then cover it with a ribbon?
I'm feeling so stupid, please help!
Thanks,
Chica
Let me see if I can explain what to do... ![]()
You need to make a series of cuts around the edge of the covering (what you are using to cover the cake circle) so that it overlaps on the back of the cake circle when you fold it over the sides. The cut should NOT go up to the edge of the cake circle because then the cake circle will show. So, the cut needs to allow for the covering/wrapping to go over the cake circle edges.
I hope this makes sense.
- Lay the (round) cardboard on the paper.
- Cut the paper in a circle about 2-3" larger than the cardboard. It doesn't have to be neat.
- I fold the paper down onto the cardboard at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions; tape down.
- I then take the paper between the 12 and the 3 position and just start folding it in. It will scrunch up but that's ok .... just push it flat. Tape down.
- Once I'm done, I flip it over and just run my hand around the edge of the cardboard to moosh down those little "points" that results from the fold-downs and scrunching. (Sorry for being so technical with terms like "moosh down" and "scrunch up"!
)
- Bottom Line: No one but you is going to notice if it's not "perfect". ![]()
