This golf cake is DOOMED!!!! Last night it split apart while i was trying to wrap it to put in the fridge...so I made another layer 12x18 since I couldn't torte the broken layer, so now I decided to put the split layer on the bottom and turn it into a layered cake...I patch up my split layer and get the dam on it, fill it with a cheesecake mousse...now I place my new 12x18 on my patched layer and one of the corners starts to give...I hurry up grab my bag of stiff BC that I used to make the dam and fill in the all the corners and all the edges. I am so afraid to even go near this cake now to ice it and decorate it because every time I touch it even slightly it seems to break...I HATE CHOCOLATE CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I HAVE NEVER HAD THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS! IT HAS TO BE THE STUPID CHOCOLATE CAKE THAT IS SOOOOO SOFT!

I still have a little hope but not much now! I have to deliver this cake at 11:30 tomorrow morning! UUUGGGHHH!!!!

WISH ME LUCK!!!! icon_redface.gif

I hate that you had this problem...anymore when I have to make a chocolate cake I do the chocolate WASC or the DH with the pudding and a extra egg...all the other recipes seem to be too moist and break easily! I hope everything else goes well for you

I am not a fan of chocolate cake either. When someone asks me what would I suggest it is never chocolate. Don't get me wrong I like chocolate just not chocolate cake to work with.
Maybe the next one will be better. icon_biggrin.gif

I feel the same way. I love to eat chocolate cake, but I HATE to decorate with it. I have never had the problems you are describing, and I use Betty crocker mixes.

I hope that everything went well with your cakes.

yep, chocolate cakes can be a pain...
I did a happy dance when my DH asked for a chocolate cake for his b-day this year and asked me not to ice it.
He wanted to eat it warm with a very thing layer of bc melted on the top.
So easy and really yummy icon_wink.gif

sorry your cake is being naughty.

My first whimsical cake was devil's food and I've been afraid to try again. It tested awesome, chocolate with raspberry filling, but it was a mess to work with. I made it for my friend's 40th BD and she loved it! It worked out okay but it was a huge mess getting there.
