have you looked in the recipe section on here!! There are tons and they are rated by people who have used them so you can get an idea of what tried and true favorites there are. Good Luck Welcome to Cake Central Click on the tab above that says recipes that you can just look at all the frostings or type in Buttercream and look at those!!
I also use half/half recipe only i use Salted Butter....
My recipe (given by a lovely lady on Wilton website):
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
5 cups (measured after sifting) Powdered sugar....
2 TBS heavy cream
milk as needed to thin (usually about 1 TSP)....
I cream the butter and shortening.....then add vanilla, powdered sugar (it will be all thick) then add heavy cream and milk as needed to thin....I like it SOOO much better than class buttercream (and actually I used this recipe for all my classes).
Because of the high sugar content it does not need to be refrigerated even though it has a bit of milk & cream in it.
I use the buttercream for decorators recipe on here, except I use 1 1/2 cups butter, unsalted, and a little more than a half cup of shortening. I recommend high ratio shortening. If you don't have that, I found that the Kroger shortening was actually creamier and left less taste than the Crisco.
