Well folks...I've lost my job this morning...I work third shift and all of the people were laid off that are working for them through a temp agency. I have the highest seniority on third shift so I would be the first one to get called back....but here is the thing....I can't take another assignment from the temp agency. If I do, I can't go back if/when they call us back from being laid off. I have over 900 hours in this company. I can't afford to not work. My cake biz hasn't taken off very much yet so I can't get income from that enough to suffice the loss I have. I really don't know what to do here guys.... I can file for unemployment but I don't know how long that will take to kick in and I really can't wait on it for too long......I feel like crying and having a pity party, but neither of those will help the situation I am in. Sooooooo help please think of how to get me out of this mess or pray or both. Thanks.

I have no idea what you should do, except go ahead and apply for unemployment. The sooner you get things started, the sooner you should get it. Good luck!

Go for the unemployment ASAP! Also is it possible to get a Temp job through another Temp service without affecting the position you hold with the Company or the Temp service you currently use? Is there someone who maybe needs Temp. babysitting services? Even elderly adults can be cared for if you know someone who might have a need. On the cake front you could invest your extra time towards building your business by making sample cakes and offering them to friends, family, or other associates who could either place an order, or help you get some orders. I know I may not have the best suggestions for your situation, but If you keep looking for ways to bring in some income, you won't spend to much time worrying and panicing. HTH & Good Luck.

Sorry to hear about your situation. . . I was in the same boat not too many years back. Definitely, file for unemployment, you've earned and it will help the worry situation. At least you have some money coming in to pay the bills. You have to look for work while on unemployment so that is not a bad thing either. Something will turn up . . . I was on unemployment for only 4 months until I landed my present position. If possible, sign up with other temp services, if that is allowed.
Hang it there . . . prayers and hugs are coming your way!

Sorry to hear about your situation. I have been there too before. Are there any bakeries or grocery stores with bakeries that you could apply at? Try and see this as an opportunity. Everyone has a path that was made for them and perhaps you were not on the right one yet. Take some time to focus and think about what makes you the happiest you have every been when you are doing it. That is your path. The first step will be the scariest one you have ever taken but if you are on the path that was made for you you will be successful. I once managed almost one million square feet of office space in a large city. The pay was good but my family (especially my children), my health and my dreams all suffered. I am lucky enough to have an opportunity to devote almost full time to my baking business and it shows. I am happy so I am able to develop more business. My product is better and more creative too.

Sorry for the long reply but try and see this as an opportunity to focus on what makes you the happiest and take that path as much as you can. Say a prayer and ask for guidance to your path. It does work!

Asupergirl,

I feel for you icon_cry.gif I also was laid off a few years ago; it sucked! I took the unemployment and was called back within six months, but it was scary thumbsdown.gif

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, and keep you in my prayers.

I'm sorry this happened to you. Go first thing in the morning and sign up for unemployment, that way you have a little bit of a head start.
