Hi,

I am very new to cake decorating and I would love to practice more. I currently have been making a cake a week and then DH and I end of eating it over the course of the week. We are starting Weight Watchers and really don't need to be having cakes and cookies around the house.

Can you please suggest a way for me to practice without actually making a cake and not wasting a lot of frosting?? Thanks!!

You can practice on a styrofoam dummy or if you do the real thing, I have NEVER had anyone refuse cake- relatives, friends, neighbors, people at work.

Heck, my office wishes I would practice more! It seems the more they (the women) say they are dieting, the faster they head for free cake! icon_lol.gif

I practice alot with dummy cakes. I wrap the dummies in saran wrap and that way I can reuse the icing to practice more. My office loves my cakes also. I have already had six order cakes for the holidays from me. Welcome!

I make either No Fail Sugar Cookies or the chocolate roll cookies (both recipes on this site) and cut them out using an 8 inch round cake pan. You can decorate them just like the top of a cake. They freeze well before decorating, so you can make a batch and freeze.
I give them away, people love getting them because they aren't too big yet big enough to share...AND I get some practice!

I saw a post where someone used the back of paper plates....I thought that was a great idea!

You can practice on your cake pans! Turn them upside down and frost. Then, you can scrape off the icing and re-use.
