Just been cruising the gallery for inspiration. I've been asked to do a cake/s for a family friend (almost family) who is turning 98 next week. She used to be in old time theatre, loves roses, fav colour pink & lilac.

Was thinking of experimenting with what flavour cakes also...people talk about using "white cake" -- what is this exactly? Looked one on the recipes and it uses 10 egg whites! whoa!!

Anyways... any help / inspiration would be appreciated... am totally stuffed up with the flu at the moment and have enough trouble figuring out how to put my shoes on at the moment!!! icon_confused.gif

G'day Feefs,

I thought this cake was quite lovely:

There have been times I've been know to have a hot toddy for medicinal purposes when I've had a cold. Don't know if it helps, but if you use enough liquor, you don't care, for a little while at least icon_lol.gif

Hi.
Don't know what size cake you are needing but have a nice idea.
Since you said she likes old time theatre how about doing a movie of her life cake? Picture a 2 or 3 layer round with like the old style movie reel sitting on the top and the "film"draping down the layers. All around the sides of the cake pictures of her from childhood to present. It may be to labor intensive for what the family wants but for someone who is turning 98 what a nice way to honor their life.
Maybe you could incorporate a large size stemmed rose on the top of the movie reel.

Anyhow just my thoughts.

this is a nice white cake recipe........you don't have to separate out any eggs...I've made it twice and it's delicious!! I have also made it adding 2 Tbsp. of vanilla/caramel coffee creamer (powdered) to the batter and it's divine!! A very mild and yummy flavor I think it would be a wonderful cake for her. Oh and I love the idea of the movie reel and the rose.......that would be so awesome!!

the white almond sour cream cake on here is awesome, I used strawberry buttercream filling in it and it rocked. I love the idea of the popcorn cake with film someone posted.
