I have never used the heating core. I always use mix 2 choc mixes and fill the bear to the top of his paws. This leaves room for the cake to rise, I also set a cookie sheet on the bottom of the oven to catch any batter that might over flow.

After the bear is done- lay him on his face & remove the clips and carefully remove the back half of the pan. Let him cool for about 5-10 minutes put the back on and flip him over - again I leave him for 10-15 minutes & flip one more time. This time I leave him for several hours - sometimes even over night. The next day I will remove from pan and he sits just great & is ready to be decorated. My mom & I have done the bear this way for 20+ years and it works great every time.

Hope this helps.

You have to use the core or else the cake will not get all the way done. The only time that I used my pan, I didn't have a problem. I followed the directions that came with the pan to the letter. I did spray the core real well. I also baked the cake in the morning and decorated it that night. Your cake may not have been cool enough. With the cake being so big, it does take a while. Sorry I can't help more but I haven't used it except for that one time. Good luck.

You definitly need the core, it bakes better and way faster (time is money) and after you bake it the cake is way more stable when you fill the void with buttercream. If you don't use the core the outside will be seriously over baked by the time the middle is done. I made the Buddha cake on my site with the large teddy bear pan.

I have used by bear pan a few times and have always used the core. I agree spray the core and pan. Mine usually runs over a bit also but the cookie sheet catches any spills. The only time by bear fell apart is when I didn't follow the instruction to the letter on how to cool it (one of the feet came off). The bear holds up best with a pound cake but has held up fine with other flavors also. I have filled mine with bavarian cream and it worked great. my favorite thing (other than how cut it is) is being able to fill it. In fact I just posted my 1st picture and it was a cake with the bear chocolate cake filled with vanilla custard and raspberries.

I have never used the core and never had any problems. I have used the carebear, winnie the pooh and stand up bear with no problem. I used the core once with my first attempt, and my cake fell apart.

When you do use the core, put batter inside the core (be sure to spray or grease like the pan) and you will have a "plug" of cake to put back into the bear and not have to use so much icing. Janice
