I found this cake picture by searching Google Images for Tulips on Wedding Cakes. I dont know who made it, but I think it's absolutely beautiful work!!

...My question to you guys is, do you think these are real flowers? Or is this something that I could make out of fondant? How would I go about doing that, if anyone knows. I could just play around with fondant until I kind of liked what I'd done, but if someone already knows how that would be a big help. I don't have it in my budget to go buy books on how to do it. Thanks!!

Personally, I think they are either real or silk flowers. I don't think they are fondant. I have seen tulip cutters for fondant though-there is even one in the wilton set. I don't think the wilton one would make ones that look extremely real though.

Thanks! ...they do look real. If they are sculpted, someone did a fabulous job! haha

I'll look into the cutters from wilton!

I have done tulips with the wilton cutters. They did not look real to me, but maybe that is my inexperience. I did like them though. They are easy to do. There is a pic in my album if your interested in what they look like with the wilton cutters.

I don't think they are real, tulips are not a good flower to be left with out water.
I've done Rosemary Watson's tulips, they look beautiful, I think they are the same as the ones Ron Ben-Israel uses.
I think this ones are silk flowers

I have tulip cutters and veiners by Rosemary Watson and they make very good looking tulips. She's not in the business anymore but Sunflower Sugar Art makes very similiar cutters/veiners like these from Global Sugar Art: http://www.globalsugarart.com/product.php?id=19358

They come with instructions on how to make the tulips.

Yes that is a beautiful cake and I too have to do a 2 tier cake with three tulips on the top. What I would like to know how was the wording done as it is so perfect. Does anyone know?

Nick Lodge has a tutorial also on how to make realistic tulips. He also sells the rubber tubing to go over the wire to dublicate the stem. I bought that and my veiner at a show from him but you can go to his website and get it also. What I like about his veiner is that it has the cupping in it already and makes the tulips look great. He also shows in a video I have how to correctly color them.
I had actually used the Wilton cutter and a rose veiner for the tulips I made on my toile cake. They dont look too bad but glad that I bought the new stuff from Nick. Picture of it is in my pics but their is a better picture on the mid atlantic wedding cake competition site. You can see the tulips more clearly than with my camera phone pics.

Definitely check out Nick Lodge's site - or just call them toll-free. His DVD on French Style Decorating Techniques shows how to make beautiful tulips. You can see them here

The DVD is only $20 and is excellent, and he has all of the cutters and veiners as well. They ship immediately, too thumbs_up.gif

I believe that is a chocolate transfer sheet, or they used stencils. I am sure somebody here knows for sure.

I believe they said it was stencils. I remember seeing it on here and pretty sure she downloaded a font and did it. I think I saved it in my fav's. I will have to check and get back to everyone.
