I have my very first order today.I made a homeade Strawberry cake with basic buttercream.9" double layer with basketweave.I made Royal icing flowers on Friday for it.I guess around 20 flowers. It took me 1 1/2 hrs to decorate it today not counting the flowers on Friday. I have no clue what to charge.Do you go by servings if so how do I find out? Thanks so much for any info.

Oh and another question.I need a sheetcake to feed 4o people for my sons 1 b-day party coming up.I guess it will be 2 layers high. What size pan do I need to buy?

Thanks so much girls!

I'm really sorry I don't know about sheet cakes or American prices - but I thought I'd try to help seeing as no-one has responded to you yet.

When I started pricing my cake I found out how much local bakeries were charging and charged about the same as them. I now charge more than them as I was getting too many orders and that has cut them down to more 'serious' cakes (big!) Also don't forget that the customer is paying for your time, experience, expertise, ingredients, oven time, delivery etc etc. Don't undersell!

I can't help you with pricing since I don't sell my cakes. However, I believe that a half sheet cake will be the way to go for your son's party. Good Luck

Here's a link to a price matrix that many people use to determine the cost. HTH
