OK so my friend asked if I would do a 40th b-day cake for her sister and I said that I would. Yesterday I told her I would deliver it by 2 today and would be finishing it this morning. So my sweet hubby took the kids outside to play yesterday afternoon while I baked, made ganache and MMF, and made some decos so they could be drying. Got up this morning, whipped out breakfast and get my cakes covered with fondant and the phone rings. It's my friend who tells me they have changed the plans and the party has been moved up to start in 1 HOUR!! She was really apologetic (it wasn't her decision and she sounded embarrassed) and insists that she's going to pay me for it. I'm not going to take her money because I wasn't going to charge her for it anyway, it was going to be my gift to her sister (we are casual friends). There was no way I could finish it in half an hour and I had already had some problems with it. My decos weren't dry enough and it took me two attempts on each cake to get them covered neatly with white MMF over chocolate ganache - so I was actually relieved to just throw my hands up and say I'm done! She was going to pick up a generic cake at the grocery store on the way over there and my hubby thinks I should go ahead and finish it and give it to her anyway so they can see what they missed out on. I think I'll just be happy to be able to spend the day with my family!! ![]()
I had planned to make a cake similar to this one by Cheneya:

But I swear!! Some people!!! oh well.....
Thats a shame for something you worked so hard on to be replaced with a store bought version. Are they eating the cake right away? If not I personaly would finish and take it, but thats just my 2 cents.
Thanks ya'll. I definitely WON'T be eating it! Not that it's not good, just once I start eating chocolate cake it's very hard to stop! It's so much easier just not to eat any of it....
