Hi-
My friend wants me to make a dump truck cake for her son's birthday. She told me today that there will be 10 people there - 6 of which are 5 year old children.

I really want to do a sculpted dump truck cake but am not sure what size cake to make. Originally I was going with a 9x13 base of two layers and then a square on top for the window part of the cake. I think now that this will be to big. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks so much - Alexis

I'm not going to be any help in what size cakes to use, but I do know there are some styles/designs that just cannot be made small. Sometimes the client has to accept "you get this design for 25 people or you pick another cake".

I have a wedding cake that way. It's two 3-tier cakes on top of a fountain connected by stairs. It cannot be done for only 100 people. The bride who wanted it a few months ago had to either go with cake for 200 or what we ended up doing was a 3-tier dummy cake for her.
