How Do I Fix A Leaning Cake?
Decorating By CakesByNikki Updated 22 Oct 2006 , 12:10am by CakesByNikki
I am making a tiered cake 6" on top and 10" on bottom. My problem is with the 6". I was supposed to have a 6" x 4" on top, but all I have is a 6"x2" pan. I baked two of those to form the 4" height needed. I made a pudding and put it in the center. When I went to put the icing on it, the cake started to lean. How do I fix this? Or what should I have done differently? Please Help! Thanks! ![]()
Did you build your dam around the edge of the cake before filling it with the pudding?
I am not sure since I can't see it.
Is it stacked already? Is it on piers or straight on the first tier? Do you have it dowed? If so well? What about what you have under the top tier, is it cardboard? How may layers, I know a lot of people use two if they use cardboard.
Sorry for all the what ifs, but it is hard to say without being able to see the cake to help see the problem.
What kind of icing did you use? Also, sometimes even with smaller cakes, I will put a center dowel or straw into the cake for stability to prevent layers from shifting.
Do you have a pic?
roosterroses, is it too late to put a straw or dowel in it now that its already iced?
it's not too late to dowel it. In fact many people don't dowel until that point. Just smooth over it with a touch more icing.
right... what LukeRubyJoy said. ![]()
so, how did it go?
That worked great! Thanks so very much for your help! ![]()
