With Lustre Dust!!! I just got some in the mail today and tried it for the first time on some fondant leaves for a cake I'm bringing to a party tomorrow. I used Copper...at first I was just going to do my orangish leaves...but then I did my brown ones, my pumpkin, my acorns...everything's lustre dusted!!!! I'll post a pic as soon as I put it together tomorrow.

One question for you guys that use it a lot...do you think it can be used on candy melts? I'm just thinking...I could dress up my cake truffles for the holidays, since I already got several orders!

Aren't they fun? thumbs_up.gif I have made wings out of candy melts for a couple of dragon cakes and dusted gold luster dust on them for a cool affect. Worked just fine. icon_biggrin.gif

I use dusts on chocolates. I use gold and silver on chocolate to make custom belt buckles for my rodeo friends and they look so realistic! The first time I made them noone even guessed that they were edible and all the kids were nuts about them. For that matter, I saw a couple of old cowboys scrambling to get the extras, haw haw. I'm going to try to put a picture of a couple in my pix.

I love it too but one drawback is if you wear glasses. I can hold my eyeglasses up to the light and they shine with all these raibow hues. icon_rolleyes.gif

I've never used it. Do you dust it on? Wet it somehow and paint it on? I just made a pyramid cake for my Egyptologist DH, and painted it dry on the top, but it didn't show up much.

hey lesliee

yes you can just dust it on or mix it with clear alcohol and paint it on.

some will dust better than other depending on the color you are using. i have found that the darker dusts show up better than the lighter colors.

Hope this helps

sweet...you are funny! I ordered copper, silver and white...I am really wanting to lustre dust some cake truffles, but is it okay, considering the toxic warnings on this stuff? I mean, I don't want to kill anyone icon_eek.gif I just think it would look so cool!!

I also am regretting not ordering some more from ebay...considering I can't buy it around here and the shipping was the same no matter how many I bought icon_surprised.gif

Kate

i would dust the truffles isn't the effect worth maybe dying over... lol

seriously it should be ok... kids eat non toxic stuff all the time (well mine do anyway and they haven't got sick or died yet)..

This makes me think of the part in the movie "Bruce Almighty" where she is irritated that the kid ate some glue, then some glitter and she says, "I swear, that kids gonna poop an ornament!"
